আজকে মোরে বোলো না কাজ করতে,

যাব আমি দেখাশোনার নেপথ্যে আজ সরতে

    ক্ষণিক মরণ মরতে॥

অচিন কূলে পাড়ি দেব,  আলোকলোকে জন্ম নেব,

মরণরসে অলখঝোরায় প্রাণের কলস ভরতে॥

অনেক কালের কান্নাহাসির ছায়া

ধরুক সাঁঝের রঙিন মেঘের মায়া।

আজকে নাহয় একটি বেলা    ছাড়ব মাটির দেহের খেলা,

                  গানের
দেশে যাব উড়ে সুরের দেহ ধরতে॥

Transliteration

Aajke more bolo na kaj korte,
Jaabo aami dekhashonar nepathye aaj sorte
Khonik maron morte.
Achin kule paari debo, alokloke janmo nebo,
Maronrase alakhjhoray praaner kalos bhorte.
Anek kaaler kaannahaasir chhaaya
Dhoruk snaajer rongin megher maaya.
Aajke nahoi ekti bela    chhaarbo maatir deher khela,
Gaaner deshe jaabo ure surer deho dhorte.

English

Today, do not ask me to work.
Today, I will proceed behind the stage
To die a momentary death,
To cross over to a shore unknown,
To be born in the world of light,
To fill the pitcher of life with the nectar of death
From the fountain unseen.
Shadows of joys and sorrows of many ages
Cast on the illusion of the colourful evening clouds.
Today, for a while, I will leave the play of this fragile body
And taking the shape of notes, will fly away to the land of songs.
