৫৫৯ আমার এই পথ-চাওয়াতেই আনন্দ। খেলে যায় রৌদ্র ছায়া, বর্ষা আসে বসন্ত॥ কারা এই সমুখ দিয়ে আসে যায় খবর নিয়ে, খুশি রই আপন-মনে– বাতাস বহে সুমন্দ॥ সারাদিন আঁখি মেলে দুয়ারে রব একা, শুভখন হঠাৎ এলে তখনি পাব দেখা। ততখন ক্ষণে ক্ষণে হাসি গাই আপন-মনে, ততখন রহি রহি ভেসে আসে সুগন্ধ॥
Transliteration
Aamar ei path-chaawatei aanondo. Khele jaay roudro chhaaya, barsha aase basonto. Kaara ei samuk diye aase jaay khabor niye, Khusi roi aapon mone - baatas bohe sumando. Saaradin aankhi mele duware rabo eka, Subhokhan hatthat ele takhoni paabo dekha. Tatokhan khane khane haasi gaai aapon-mone, Tatokhan rohi rohi bhese aase sugandho.

This is my delight, thus to wait and watch at the wayside where shadow chases light and the rain comes in the wake of the summer. Messengers, with tidings from unknown skies, greet me and speed along the road. My heart is glad within, and the breath of the passing breeze is sweet. From dawn till dusk I sit here before my door, and I know that of a sudden the happy moment will arrive when I shall see. In the meanwhile I smile and I sing all alone. In the meanwhile the air is filling with the perfume of promise.
