सुरेन्द्रनाथ बंदोपाध्याय

Surendranath Bandopadhyay (1886–1972) belonged to the Vishnupur gharana, the oldest classical lineage in Bengal. He learnt dhrupad, dhamar and tappa from his elder brothers Ramprasanna and Gopeswar Bandopadhyay, and played sitar, surbahar and esraj. His scholarship earned him the title Sangitratnakar.

He is one of the notators who brought a classical training from outside the Tagore household to the writing-down of Rabindrasangeet — which is part of why the raga attributions on those songs are as precise as they are.
